CAMP INFORMATION

The TCU Andrews Institute hosts summer camps for grades 3+ with limited availability. View descriptions for each workshop below. You can sign up for the camps using the menu on the left.

Title: BALLOON POWERED VEHICLES
Date & Time: June 18-22, 2018
9:00 – 11:30 AM
Description: Kids will design and build cars, hovercraft, and boats propelled by balloons and rubber bands! Vehicles will become home to share with family and friends.
Audience: Children entering grades 3th-5th Fall 2018

Camp: SCIENCE OF MAGIC
Date & Time: June 18-22, 2018

Description: Levitating, disappearing, or defying gravity, most magic tricks are really science! Kids will observe, learn, and practice tricks then share them at home.

Camp: ROCKETS
Date & Time: July 9-13, 2018
9:00 – 11:30 AM
Description: Kids will build rockets, experiment with various rocket propulsions and fuels, and bring rockets and fuels home to share!

Camp: ELECTRONICS DE-CONSTRUCT/ RECONSTRUCT
Date & Time: July 9-13, 2018
12:00 – 2:30 PM
Description: Students will learn tool use, soldering, electronics, and circuitry as they de-construct a CD player and repurpose it into something that rolls, flies, or floats!

Camp: SIMPLE MACHINE CONTRAPTIONS
Date & Time: July 16-20, 2018
9:00 – 11:30 AM
Description: Levers, pulleys, and wheels Oh My! Students will learn six simple machines and design and build Rube Goldberg contraptions to complete challenges!

Camp: CHEMICAL REACTIONS
Date & Time: July 16-20, 2018
12:00 – 2:30 PM
Description: Students will tinker with chemical reactions, safely control reaction time and temperatures, and use the produced energy to move, inflate, and propel.

Citizen Science Summer Workshops

Location: TCU Campus, Palko Building, 2nd Floor

Instructors: Kelly Feille, Ph.D., Jenesta Nettles, Ph.D. And Morgan Stewart

 

Camp: WATCH YOUR WATERSHED     

Date & Time: June 25th-29th, 2018 8:30-noon

Description: Students will engage in inquiry practices to understand local watershed systems and human and natural impact on these systems. We will develop tools for students to act as citizen scientists to monitor the local Trinity River watershed.

Audience: Grades 3-5


Camp: WATERSHED RESCUE

Date & Time: July 9th-13th, 2018 8:30-noon

Description: Students will engage in inquiry practices to understand test results from local watershed systems, how humans and nature influence these results. Students will act as citizen scientists as they develop rescue plans for the local Trinity River watershed.

Audience: Grades 5-7

Camp: DIVING DEEPER

Date & Time: July 16-20th, 2018 8:30-noon

Description: In this weeklong workshop, alumni participants will build upon their past experiences in Watch Your Watershed and Watershed Rescue. They will take a closer look at the chemistry, geology, and ecology of the local watershed through inquiry-based investigations of participant-generated questions and research design.

Prerequisite: Students will need to have completed Watch Your Watershed and/or Watershed Rescue by July 16, 2018.

Audience: Grades 6-8


Camp: WATERSHED PREPAREDNESS

Date & Time: July 30-August 3rd, 2018 8:30-noon

Description: In this weeklong workshop, alumni participants will build upon their past Watershed Workshop experiences. Students will investigate the role of clean water in natural and man-made disasters.

Prerequisite: Students will need to have completed Diving Deeper by July 20, 2018.

Audience: Grades 6+
